Great article, one that I agree with whole-heartedly. Our industry does indeed need to be the leaders in the global challenge - who said that that that you can't measure you can't control?

I think the real problem is association with the current metrics. Does anyone in the average company understand what a ton of carbon represents? Really? I certainly don't.

At Version One we have attempted to make our measurements more 'real'. So, for example, we represent how many real trees have been 'saved' by using our Document Management technologies. So far its been a real success - I think really because early adopters can associate with the saving of a tree - its something you can 'imagine' without much difficulty.

But, in essence, surely we need the formulation of an industry standard that focuses minds and allows consistent and tangible measurement and consequential reductive activities.

I for one, and my company, are ready to commit to a new level of focus and attention.
